#BringBackOurGirls

Jeremiah 31:15
Thus, says the Lord: A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are no more.

On April 14th, a militant Islamist group Boko Haram kidnapped 276 girls from their school in Nigeria. Nearly 200 girls are still missing. A video posted by the leader of the group said Allah told him to sell the girls to be married (sex slavery) because there is a market for human life. The group has announced the girls will be sold for only $12.

There is a social media campaign to raise awareness about this terrorist abduction of young girls. The campaign, #BringBackOurGirls, hopes the attention will influence national leaders to help find the girls. The US has already responded by sending 50 to the area to help. I offer this prayer for their freedom and innocence.

Let’s pray:
Compassionate God, your call for Christ’s church is to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, give drink to the thirsty, and visit the imprisoned. We cannot visit the imprisoned girls abducted in Nigeria. We want to find them, comfort them, and take them back to their homes.

Hear our prayers for the girls whose lives are dear to us and most precious to you. May they know they are loved by millions around the world who pray for them and hope for their safety. Make known to them your presence amidst their terrifying circumstances. Keep them together that their community may sustain their hope. Guard their innocence from exploitation. May they return to live as the children they are.

Hear our prayers for the men and women searching for the girls. Guide them to where the girls are held. Strengthen the teams for the tireless work they will do and protect them as they face evil. May their passion for justice fuel their striving.

Hear our prayers for the men who acted so heinously. Have mercy on the souls who have misunderstood your image in all of humanity and believe you would have any one of your daughters sold as a slave. May their spirits be restored to the knowledge of you as Creator of all humanity and giver of all life.

In the name of Christ Jesus who came to set the captives free, we pray. Amen.

Below are the names of 180 of the girls still missing. Please pray for them individually.
